[CFF ’22] ‘Gateway’ Review — Irish thriller is more of a chiller

Irish writer/director Niall Owens’ new film Gateway begins with a quote from Spanish philosopher Baltasar Gracián. “Never open the door to a lesser evil,” Gracián cautions, “for other and greater ones invariably slink in after.” What follows is a haunted-house tale that takes place in midday, one that centers on a mysterious locked door that, of course, becomes unlocked… for the right person. “Lesser evil?” We’ll see about that…
